Well done to our paddlers who headed down to West Lakes, Adelaide, to compete against the rest of Australia at the 2010 Australian Championships regatta, hosted by DragonboatSA. The weather was mixed across each day of racing, with some days reaching up to 28 degrees, and other days reaching to lows of 14 degrees!
For those who don't know, the Australian Championships (a.k.a Nationals) regatta is split into a few days, namely:
- State vs. State 500m - 22nd April 2010
- Club vs Club 500m - 23nd April 2010
- Club vs Club 200m - 24th April 2010
- Club vs Club 2000m - 25th April
For State vs. State, well done to our state reps from CYL: Chris Wong, Churn Ng, David Wong, Fiona Tran, Leida Ji, Louise Ngai, Paul Wilkins, Sue Yin Chew for placing well on the day! Most/all of our CYL participants were able to bring home medals with most races won by NSW paddlers.
For Club vs Club races, CYL went up against many familiar NSW rivals (Sloths, PDs, VADB, to name a few), and also encountered fierce competitors from other states all over Australia (Te Waka, Ice Dragons, ADFA, to name a few). For the 500m races, most CYL teams required to race in repechage races, however still managed to make semi-finals and finals at the end of the day. Congratulations to all crews involved.
Our CYL JAWs crew came very close to reaching finals, however were not able to beat out fierce competitors from the other states. Likewise, the CYL Mixed Crew placed well throughout the day, yet just missed out in reaching the minor final for the day. Congratulations to the CYL Opens crew, placing 7th in the minor final, even though they were ranked 11th heading into it. A great result amongst tough competition. Good work lads!
